Are you looking for a new hiking trail to explore? If you live in San Gabriel Valley, California, then you’re in luck! Just a short drive from Los Angeles, Turnbull Canyon is a great place to get some fresh air and see some amazing views. Here’s everything you need to know about hiking at Turnbull Canyon.

Location and Directions
Turnbull Canyon is located in the Whittier Hills, which are part of the Puente Hills. The address for the starting point of the trail is 17402 East Rowland Street, Hacienda Heights, CA 91745. To get there from Los Angeles, take the 605 freeway north until you reach the Fullerton Road exit. From Fullerton Road, turn left onto Nogales Street and then turn right onto Rowland Street. The parking lot for Turnbull Canyon will be on your right.

Hiking Trails
There are two main trails that ascend Turnbull Canyon: the Skyline Trail and the Ridge Route Trail. Both trails are about 2 miles long and gain about 1000 feet in elevation. The Skyline Trail is considered to be more difficult, as it is steeper in some sections and has more loose rocks. However, both trails offer stunning views of the canyon and surrounding area.

If you’re looking for an even bigger challenge, you can combine both trails into a loop hike that is just over 4 miles long. This hike will take you up to the ridgeline where you will have panoramic views of Los Angeles County all the way to Catalina Island on a clear day. To complete the loop hike, simply follow the Ridge Route Trail back down to the parking lot.
no matter which trail you choose, be sure to bring plenty of water and wear sunscreen! There is very little shade on either trail.
Lastly, please be respectful of the environment and pack out any trash that you may generate during your hike.
